Team Hawkhill Storytelling

Before half term, Team Hawkhill tried incredibly hard to learn the story ‘Warhorse’ off by heart to perform at our Storytelling event. The Upper Juniors had been studying War Horse and had been fully immersed in the text before writing their own recounts as Joey, inspired by the Michael Morpurgo text!

This story was particularly tricky and the team showed great resilience in learning it! Since learning it, phrases have begun to pop up in our writing – particularly Josh’s biography where he quoted, “Came news that would change their lives forever: War had been declared!”

We all enjoyed the storytelling afternoon and hearing other performances – especially Badger’s retelling of Alice in Wonderland and team Oak’s Rainforest Adventure!

Why not watch our short clip and find out what happened to Joey in this incredible story.

Hawkhill must have worked really hard to get to that standard! Wilverley had to learn it as well and we all found it quite tricky! 😉

I really enjoyed learning the story. My favourite part was the poem parts: ‘Bugles sounded, hooves pounded, shells whined and roared- guns rattled, soldiers battled, crimson blood poured! Muddy ground, all around, broken bodies falling- thick smoke, filthy stench, wounded soldiers calling.’ Unfortunately, my computer isn’t allowing me to play the video, but I heard you practising and you’re amazing! Usually when your’e practising for something, you sound really good, but when you actually perform, the pressure sort of lifts and you sound even better! Well done! 😀

I really enjoyed performing the oral story to the other classes and think that Team Hawkhill and Miss C worked very hard to learn the words and actions! Well done to everyone in the school for trying really hard with their oral story and I hope you had a fantastic time performing them to everyone.. Well done everyone 🙂
