Explorer Time

Spring Term saw the start of an exciting new activity in Foundation, every Monday morning the children go outside for ‘Explorer Time’. Dressed in waterproofs and wellies the children enjoy discovering the natural world, from the bottle greenhouse at the far end of the school field to the pond in the wildlife area.

This half term the activities have all been themed around Mr Phillips’ favourite book, The Gruffalo.

Spring Half Term 1

Session 1

Children explored the school field collecting leaves, twigs and sticks, which they used to create a Gruffalo art picture on the playground.

What do you think of our wonderful Gruffalo?

Session 2

For today’s session the children were set the challenge of making wax rubbings, from interesting surfaces around the school site. Could they create a wax rubbing which looked like snake skin, owl feathers or fox fur?

Session 3

The children were really lucky today, as they got to go out on the snow covered field to hunt for animal tracks. There were lots of tracks everywhere, including; cat, deer, bird, fox and Gruffalo. The children also had a go at making their own tracks…

What is this animal? It looks like a Giant Phillipsosaus has left a foot print in the snow….

Session 4

Today the children were greeted by a very sorry looking sight, the mouse from the Gruffalo. He was very upset as all the recent rain had washed away his house, so he asked the children in Rainbow class for help in building him a new place to live.

Session 5

Today the children were hunting for insects in the school wildlife area…

Session 6

To end a very successful term of Explorer Time sessions, the children enjoyed a campfire and singing songs today.

We are all looking forward to next term’s activities…

Session 2

This week the children were set a challenge, they had to work in pairs to draw and label a map of the school field.

Session 3

For this session the children went over to the church to study the stained glass windows and see if they could identify the shapes and colours.

Session 4

Children had a great session today, they lay on the field and looked up at the sky. Whilst looking at the clouds they tried to imagine what shapes the clouds could be…

Session 5
