Team Oak and their green fingers!

Wow! What a super job the Lower Juniors have been doing clearing the garden. We have really seen the power of teamship as the garden changes daily before our eyes.

Today, despite the thunder and rain, Team Oak managed to make it out and whilst we were clearing the area, we found a huge toad, wriggling worms and lots of minibeasts hiding out in our minibeast motels in order to escape the weather.

We can’t wait to unveil the garden to you all when it is complete!

Team Hazel’s Gardening Adventure

Yesterday,

Team Hazel took a visit to our school garden. Whilst we were outside, we cleared some overgrown flower beds, moved some fresh compost and discovered some interesting minibeasts!

In the picture, can you see what Oakleigh has found?

What would you like to see growing in our school garden and why?

Team Hazel

KS1 jet off to the Caribbean!

Last Thursday, all KS1 children came into school dressed in flowery shirts, swimming shorts and flip flops accompanied with their suitcases.  As they entered school, they soon realised that their classrooms were no longer classrooms; they had been transformed into departure lounges ready to jet off to the Caribbean!

Throughout the day the children had to check in with their passports and boarding passes, experience the thrill of take-off and flying to and from the Caribbean (complete with in-flight entertainment and food!), leave their luggage in hotel rooms and have time to relax on the beach and chill by the pool!  Mysteriously, all KS1 teachers and TA’s had disappeared all day and were instead replaced by Captains, Flight Attendants and Holiday reps!

It was a fantastic day and a wonderful learning experience to prepare us for our ‘Holidays’ topic this half term.  Do you remember when you flew to the Caribbean in KS1?  If so, what was your favourite part of the day?

An ‘Egg’stremely Big Disaster!

On Friday, after break, the Lower Juniors settled down to what they thought would be a normal English lesson…

Suddenly, they looked out of the window to find smashed eggs and hay scattered all over the floor outside.

They had to work as detectives for the rest of the lesson, solving the mystery and working out who might have caused this messed.

Can you have a guess? What do you think happened?

Miss Cooper.

Durlston Court Tournament

On Wednesday 10th September, the Year Five football team took part in the Durlston Court football tournament. It was a nail-biting tournament and we were very proud to become top of our group, thanks to some amazing goals and fantastic teamship.

We then progressed into the semi-finals and showed some great resilience despite eventually losing 3-0. It was a great experience and we would all like to say a big thank you to Mrs Wooster and Mr Parsons for taking the team.

What a great start to the season and we can’t wait for the road ahead!

Are you a member of any clubs or school teams? If so, what sport are you looking forward to this year?

Eco Inspiration

What a start to the Lower Juniors! You all made your teachers very proud at Minstead and I hope you enjoyed the experience. Has our residential trip to Minstead  inspired you or your family to make a change at home in order to be more eco-friendly? If so, what changes have you made?

You may also like to post some ideas of what changes you think we could make at school or in Hordle in order to have more of an impact on our environment.

Our Fragile Earth

This week, the Lower Juniors have been writing their own Earth poems, encouraging people to join in and help protect our planet!

On Friday, Team Hazel started publishing their poetry. Jamie and Grace wrote poems about the Sun, using figurative language and careful vocabulary choices.

Have a read and if you are feeling inspired, you could write your own poem about saving the planet! I would love to hear them.

Miss Cooper.
